31st October 2024 at 6:32 pmHello,
Thank you for this lovely post showing Fairway Avenue, Gainsborough, on VE Day 1945.
Our beloved Mum – who was born and grew up at No. 30 – recently passed away, and we’ve been looking for archive photos that relate to her past.
We came across this one, showing all the women and children in the street out celebrating VE Day on May 8th 1945.
We wondered if anyone has any information on ‘who is who’ in this picture, please?
Mum’s maiden name was Sandra Mellership (married name, Stothard.)
The people we’re hoping to pinpoint in the photo are:
Sandra Mellership, aged 3 (Mum)
Ian Mellership, aged approx. 18 months (Mum’s brother)
Barbara Mellership, aged 9 or 10 (Mum’s older sister)
Norah Mellership, aged 29 (Mum’s Mum)
Annie Elizabeth Clapham (née Bailey) aged 70 (Mum’s Gran)
Alice Clapham (30s..?) (Mum’s Aunt, who often worked away in the hotel industry)
Mavis Clapham (late teens or early 20s..?) (Mum’s older cousin, who was a munitions worker (at Roses..?))
We would be immensely grateful for any help or information at all, please.
We would also like to know if there are any other photos in the Heritage Society’s archive relating to Fairway Avenue, or to any of the people I’ve mentioned here.
(Also, to Beckett Avenue, where the Mellership family later moved to.)
Thank you,
Very best wishes,
Rachel & Rebecca Stothard.
