 Defibrillator Presentation

For Immediate Release

06/05/2017

Gainsborough Heritage Centre, Chairman Andrew Birkitt is proud and pleased to announce the recent presentation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), donated to the Centre by Carlton Bradley from local company, Cliff Bradley & Sons Funeral Directors.

Carlton, who is also the vice-chairman of the Heritage Centre explained, ‘I am committed to train 100% of our team in CPR and using an AED, it’s a simple skill almost anyone can perform yet could make such a huge difference to someone’s chances of survival. It’s great to see so many defibrillators now in the community as well which can be accessed by members of the public in an emergency’.

Kirsty Raywood, sales manager for LIVES explained, ‘Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the UK’s biggest killers, and yet statistics show that most of the British public are unaware of the life-saving difference they can make by performing CPR and defibrillation. Sadly only 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Like a lot of other medical emergencies, the potential for saving a life is dependent upon time; the faster help can be obtained the better the chance of survival.’

Carlton continued and said, ‘LIVES are a truly amazing charity, their corporate training has been fantastic, their approach, flexibility and passion is exemplary’.

This year, LIVES will train hundreds of individuals how to use an AED when a cardiac arrest strikes. By doing so, LIVES hope to improve the survival rate of Sudden Cardiac Arrests across Lincolnshire.

By purchasing a defibrillator from LIVES you will not only be helping members of the local community, you will also be directly supporting LIVES responders in your area.

Notes to Editors:

The Gainsborough & District Heritage Association was created in 1994 and is a registered charity (no.1077538) and is celebrating its 21st Anniversary. The Gainsborough Heritage Centre situated on the corner of North Street and Spital Terrace works to preserve the history of Gainsborough as well as the surrounding villages. (The Old Post Office, North Street, Gainsborough, DN21 2HS). The Centre is volunteer led and encourages people to research and gain a further understanding of the history of our town. Fundraising is essential for the Centre in order to maintain the up-keep of the building and the facilities available to the public such as the archives, exhibition space and library/research room. A £25,000 grant has recently been awarded to the Centre to create the ground and 1st floor into permanent exhibition rooms by WREN, which is a not for profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund. The archive officers are continuing to work on the 2nd floor, to organise the storage of archive materials that have been donated to the Centre by the general public. The volunteers at the Gainsborough Heritage Centre work very hard to preserve, maintain and fundraise to keep a heritage museum in Gainsborough open.

The Heritage Centre outcomes are:

  • To preserve the history of Gainsborough
  • To get more local people engaged in their community
  • To maintain the building and create more exhibition and archival space

The Heritage Centre outputs are:

  • An events programme of exhibitions
  • Research facilities
  • Photographic archive
  • Local events and talks
  • Local history books created for purchase
  • Newsletter for Members
  • Oral history project and archive
