Heritage Centre Update

Calling New Volunteers: Are you interested in a new challenge?

The Gainsborough Heritage Centre is a local heritage museum with a fantastic array of exhibits and an extensive archive collection. The Centre requires some new and enthusiastic volunteers to help welcome visitors to the Centre as well as helping our visitors to enjoy their experience.

The volunteering will include learning about the history of Gainsborough’s past and talking to visitors about the exhibits and sharing your enthusiasm for Gainsborough’s heritage. As well as welcoming visitors, your help will be required in the research library on the top floor of the Heritage Centre. Visitors spend hours researching and immersing themselves with the research on offer and helping our visitors to find the information that they require or pointing them in the right direction is a key part of our service.

Another important part of the role is encouraging monetary donations or new members to the Centre as this is vital to help support our archive and research projects as well as raising essential spend for maintenance to the 1905 building and for use in the preservation of our exhibits. Looking after the Centre’s shop and keeping it fresh for visitors is another fun task to enjoy.

To help preserve our museum exhibits, archive collections and the historic building itself we will ask for your help in cleaning areas or objects in the Centre to make them welcoming for our visitors. As well as meeting our risk assessment for Covid-19 cleaning to ensure the Centre is safe for visitors and volunteers to work and enjoy.

Training opportunities will also be made available to volunteers throughout their period volunteering at the Centre. Training includes Fire Marshal, First Aid and Evac Chair opportunities to ensure the safety of our visitors and volunteers. Other training will be on site for example, the use of the till and how to use or operate other equipment in the Centre. As a volunteer at the Centre you will be welcome to share ideas for any additional training you feel you require. As part of this role there may be other opportunities throughout your volunteer day to work on other tasks and support other volunteers as work becomes available.

The Centre is currently open every Saturday 10am to 4pm. However, if you would be interested in volunteering on Tuesdays the Centre will be planning to re-open on Tuesdays in the future. Please either pop into the Gainsborough Heritage Centre on a Saturday, give us a ring on a Saturday on 01427 610526. Alternatively drop us a message on Gainsborough Heritage Association’s Facebook Messenger or contact the Centre on [email protected] to have a chat with one of our volunteers to find out more about the role.

A big thank you as always to the awesome small team of volunteers who continue to work hard however, the team require some more support. If you feel you would like to challenge yourself and help preserve and share the heritage of Gainsborough with visitors then please get in touch, we would like to hear from you!
