The Big Draw – A Day of Creativity at Gainsborough Old Hall

As part of the world’s biggest festival of drawing we organised a free day of sketching and guided clay tile making with Shaun Clark, our ceramic artist from Whiskerhills Pottery.  Over 80 people joined in with sketching the flowers and wildlife around the grounds of Gainsborough Old Hall, gathering inspiration for the decoration on their tile.  They all went home carefully carrying their new creations to air-dry at home.

Our intention is to offer a Big Draw event every year whilst the Townscape Heritage Initiative is running, giving as many people as possible the chance to engage with their local heritage, benefitting from the guidance of a practicing artists so that they can take away new skills and confidence in their creativity.

These are our lovely volunteers who look after the garden and were able to share a wealth of knowledge about the plants, their various uses and the history of the medievel gardens of the Old Hall.

We would like to thank the volunteers for their generosity with their time, English Heritage for offering their grounds and learning space for the event, and the players of the National Lottery without whom we would not have the funding to offer these superb FREE events to the community.
